Sores on the genitals are commonly caused by genital herpes. This viral STD can cause repeated outbreaks, but medications can help to control it. At an STD clinic, you can get evaluated and tested for the herpes virus.
Genital herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It causes painful lesions on the genitals, which begin as blisters and then break open into sores. The herpes simplex virus, or HSV causes %genital herpes%.
The virus is spread through direct contact with infected mucous membranes. Genital herpes can be spread through sexual intercourse with an infected partner. Although a condom can help to prevent the spread of the virus, if there are any lesions outside the area covered by the condom, the virus can still be passed from one partner to the other. Oral sex can spread the same virus to the mouth, where it causes similar lesions that are commonly known as “cold sores.”
Once acquired, the virus persists in a dormant state. The initial infection will heal, but there may be more outbreaks of the virus in the future. Although there is currently no way to definitively remove the virus from the body, medications are available that can make the outbreaks less frequent and less severe.
If you have sores on your genitals, you should visit an %STD clinic%. An STD clinic in Singapore will always keep your information confidential, so there’s no need to worry about privacy concerns. Often, a healthcare provider can diagnose genital herpes based on the appearance of the sores. If necessary, the fluid from the sores can be tested to check for HSV.
There’s also a blood test that looks for antibodies against the virus. The blood test will show whether or not you’ve been infected by the virus, but can’t tell whether or not you have an active infection. If you’re interested in the blood test, you can discuss it with your provider at the STD clinic.
If you have genital herpes, then you can consider taking medication. There are daily medications available that reduce the frequency of the outbreaks, and can also reduce the chances that you’ll pass the virus on to your sexual partner. There are also medications that can be taken at the beginning of an outbreak, to reduce the severity and shorten the duration of the outbreak. When you visit the STD clinic, you can discuss the risks and benefits of the medications, so you can decide whether you want to take them. If you do want them, you can also get a prescription from the %STD clinic in Singapore%.
